What is Denim Day?

Denim Day is a globally recognized campaign to protest destructive attitudes in our society about sexual assault. The campaign was initially triggered by an Italian Supreme Court ruling in which a rape conviction was overturned because the justices felt that since the victim was wearing tight jeans, she must have helped her rapist remove her jeans, thereby implying consent. The following day, the women in the Italian Parliament came to work wearing jeans in solidarity with the victim. Since then, Denim Day has been recognized for 18 years as a symbol of support and protest.

How Can I show my support?

Valley College is asking all students, faculty, and staff to make a social statement by wearing denim on April 24 to spread awareness about the misconceptions of sexual assault. Students with scheduled labs can show their support by wearing denim jackets over scrubs or picking up a denim ribbon available at the front desk on Wednesday, April 24th.
